Lunchtime creative skill sharing workshops
The Lunchbox is a regular three hourly session open to theatre artists of all disciplines (writers, performers, composers, theatre makers….) with an interest in developing their practice or a specific project, with the support, experience and skill set of other artists.
If you have an idea or new work in development that you are interested in workshopping, want to test out new material in an informal context, or you are interested in collaborating with those that do, we would love for you to join us.
Each session will be facilitated to meet the specific needs of the pre-booked group and will create an opportunity to explore new work, inform each other’s processes, network, and learn how to support each other better as artists.
All too often creatives are working in ‘bubbles’, struggling with
- Feeling the need to develop work to a particular stage before inviting other bodies on board
- The pressure to be hired on a job before getting to stretch certain creative muscles and explore working relationships
- Having to pay heavy course fees to immerse yourself in a creative environment to support your ideas
‘The Lunchbox’ aims to create an informal opportunity where ideas can be experimented with at any stage, however early, and provide the bodies, feedback and input you are looking for to move your work forward.

Will there be a piano available?
Yes!
I’m a musical theatre writer and composer and want to try out a few songs, is this the right place?
Absolutely! We would hope to have at least a few singers in each session who may be able to support you, or if you’re performing yourself the group can provide feedback and we can facilitate some development work in addition. (We can also send songs to other participants in advance!)
I’m a performer, what will I get out of the session?
Working with writers and theatre makers at the early stages of developing work demands specific creative skills, imagination and versatility – so ‘The Lunchbox’ provides a great workout for flexing your muscles in these areas, being challenged, receiving feedback and meeting artists for potential future collaborations.
I have an idea for a piece I would like to develop but haven’t started working on it yet, could I bring it to a session?
Definitely! We can facilitate ways that the group can help you explore the idea further and give you a clearer foundation to begin building upon.
Why at lunchtime?
Naturally, the hours won’t always suit everyone, but the lunchtime slot means that it is accessible to artists involved in evening shows, meetings / castings can be arranged around the times, work may allow you a long lunch break, the timing can help regarding childcare as it fits in-between school runs….
I can only make half the time – can I still join the session?
Please let us know if you can’t make the full three hours and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Will there be food???
Sorry, but no. It’s a lunchtime slot but no food will be provided!
